Eyelid Surgery Procedure
In a blepharoplasty loose skin of the upper and lower eyelids is removed along with fatty tissue, leaving no visible scars. Dr. Chung hides the incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid or on the lash line of the lower eyelid.
Surgery can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or both, which will effect of the length of the procedure and the scope of the results. Depending on how you and Dr. Chung decide to proceed, the procedure may take between 45mins and 2 hours and can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia depending on your needs and preferences.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
After surgery Dr. Chung recommends applying lubricating ointment and cold compresses to reduce side effects like soreness, swelling, and bruising. Sutures are removed at 5-7 days post surgery, and the eyes may be wrapped in gauze at first for protection and to support healing.
We make it a priority to support you during your recovery. Dr. Chung believes in ensuring that her patients feel informed and empowered about their after care. She recommends not returning to any strenuous activity until at least 2 weeks after surgery. However, most people can return to work after 2 days have passed.
While some side effects like dry eyes, infection, and bleeding may occur many of these risks are mitigated due to the expertise of our staff and the diligent monitoring of your progress post surgery. You can expect long lasting, gorgeous results with improvement for up to a year after surgery. To learn more about eyelid surgery, contact the office of plastic surgeon Lynn Chung, MD., today.
