Meet Your Doctor
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Chung and her family immigrated to Charlotte, North Carolina in the United States when she was 7 years old. As the oldest of three children in a family where both parents worked, she was often left with the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. These challenges provided her with a unique perspective on life. From her parents she learned firsthand the value of determination, drive, and a strong work ethic. She also learned at an early age to be caring of others. She believed that through hard work, anything is possible. These life experiences translate into her work and are influential in her decision to become a doctor.
Dr. Chung graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Highest Honors in Biology. As an undergraduate, she was selected as a Johnston Scholar which provided a four year full scholarship based on academic achievement, peer leadership, and community service. She then earned her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. While at Wake Forest, Dr. Chung excelled at her surgical rotations and found her love for plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her honors and achievements in medical school, which included the Robert L. Burt Research Achievement Award and winner of the 16th Annual Medical Student Research Day, lead her to be appointed to the combined General Surgery and Plastic Surgery Residency Program at University of California, San Francisco, one of the most sought after positions. During her time in San Francisco, Dr. Chung worked diligently and provided unparalleled care of her patients. She also spent a year doing clinical and basic science research to contribute to the field of plastic surgery. Her superb performance as a resident, in addition to her research accomplishments, led her to be selected for an aesthetic surgery fellowship at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan. This consisted of an additional year of intensive training in aesthetic surgery with some of the most notable plastic surgeons in the country. One of the most competitive programs in the country, Dr. Chung is one of only a select few to have additional post-graduate fellowship training in this field.
She lives with her fiancé, Dave, and their 10-year-old sheltie-mix, Buddy.
