Neck Lift Tacoma

Many patients notice a lined or less-toned neck as they age, or gain or lose weight. Some patients are simply predisposed due to genetic factors to experience negative changes to this area of the body. To create a smooth, lifted look Dr. Chung may perform a neck lift. This procedure usually takes about 3 to 4 hours and can address concerns like sagging skin, deep lines or wrinkles, a recessed-looking chin, or excess fat deposits. While restoring a youthful, taut appearance to the neck many patients increase their results by also considering additional procedures like: a face lift, liposuction, or chin augmentation.

The Procedure

Dr. Chung evaluates certain criteria to ensure you are a good candidate for surgery. Ideally patients will be interested in reducing excess skin or fat in the neck region, they may wish to improve a “turkey neck” or “double chin,” however these patients would also be in good mental health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of their treatment.

There are essentially two types of neck lift. For candidates whose primary concern is excess skin, the best option is called a cervicoplasty. Usually requiring two incisions near or behind the ears, Dr. Chung will lift and redrape the skin for a more toned appearance.

Another type of procedure for the neck addresses the platysma or neck muscle. In this procedure an additional incision is usually placed beneath the chin and the interior muscle is tightened or reduced to improve the appearance of the neck. This procedure is known as a platysmaplasty.

Recovery Process

We make it a priority to support you during your recovery. Dr. Chung believes in ensuring that her patients feel informed and empowered about their after care.

Most patients will feel tender and sore as their anesthesia wears off post surgery. Bruising and swelling are common, but usually fade after a few days. Patients will also notice a sensation of tightness in their neck, as a common after effect. Usually patients return to work quickly with a full recovery in 10-14 days post procedure.

A compression garment aids in speeding recovery due to improved circulation and support. And Dr. Chung also usually recommends a slightly elevated sleeping position (with additional pillows for support) for several weeks following the surgery. Usually 1-2 office visits in the weeks post procedure, allow Dr. Chung to maintain care and consistent care in regard to the healing process. Expect to have dressings changed, sutures removed and the progress of your healing closely monitored by our professional staff.
